Where we stayed – Naples, Capri & the Amalfi Coast, Italy
Here’s where we stayed:
Naples
Following a recommendation by Anglo Italian, we chose Hotel Micalò for our stay in Naples. From the outside, the 17th century building that houses this boutique hotel looks tired and not particularly appealing.
However, inside is an oasis of calm, filled with quirky artwork and a warm welcome from the owner, who gave us a great overview of the city and its main attractions.
The bedrooms are well set out, with the ensuite bathroom situated on a mezzanine and reached by steps to the side of the bed.
The location was OK, but not particularly central. However, it was pretty easy to get a metro into the old town and its a pleasant walk along the seafront to the Castel dell’Ovo.
Our only real complaint? We were leaving (a tiny bit) early on our last day and weren’t offered any breakfast before we headed off, so we did leave a bit hungry!
I found a good deal in Capri on booking.com. We paid £70 for our one night at the Hotel Weber Ambassador.
It was in a beautiful location in Marina Piccolo overlooking the south coast of the island and the famous Faraglioni rocks. The shuttle bus back and forth to Capri town was also a very good service.
We had to pay extra for breakfast and extra for the (very short) shuttle ride to the port, which was a little irritating and the hotel didn’t have masses of character, but it certainly did the job. Just look at that view!
Positano
In Positano, we opted for an Air BnB apartment that was only a very short walk from the main bit of town. As with anywhere on the Amalfi coast, we had to walk up to get there, but it was only a ‘little’ up!
It was a lovely apartment, although we were enjoying the local food so much that we didn’t really make the most of having a kitchen and the rest of the space.
The view from the balcony |
Our hosts were very friendly, meeting us off the boat from Capri and pointing out the things to see and do. We’d go there again, if back in Positano.
The lounge |
We paid £264 for three nights.

I'm glad to hear you liked your stay in Naples, what did you think about the city itself? Did you enjoy it?
We really liked it. We didn't spend as much time there as we'd like though… so really want to go back from some more exploring. Here's our experience: http://2britsabroad.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/exploring-naples.html
